What We Believe

The Trinity

We believe in one God, the only true and living God, who is infinite in wisdom and power.  He is Maker and Supreme Ruler of the heavens and earth.  He is worthy of all glory and praise and is inexpressibly holy. He exists eternally in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, which are one in essence but distinct in person and function.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the second person of the Trinity, eternally begotten from the Father.  He is God.  He was conceived by the Virgin Mary through the miracle of the Holy Spirit.  He suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried as our substitute for the penalty of our sins.  He rose victoriously over death and lives forever as perfect God and perfect Man.  He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity.  He is equal with God the Father and God the Son and of the same nature.  He was active in the creation of the world; He restrains the evil one until God’s purpose is fulfilled.  He convicts of sin, of judgment, and righteousness.  He bears witness to the Truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony.  He is the agent of inspiration and the new birth. He indwells, seals, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, empowers, and helps all believers.

Salvation

Salvation is made available to all by grace through faith in Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our lives.  It is the deliverance from the wages of our sin.  We need to repent of our sins and receive Him through faith as our Savior.  The believer is declared righteous, born again by the Holy Spirit, turned from sin and assured of heaven.  Nothing prevents the salvation of the greatest sinner in the world but his own voluntary rejection of the Gospel.

Inspiration

This pertains to the 66 books of the Bible, both New Testament and Old Testament, which were written by holy men of old, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  The Bible is both verbally and plenarily inerrant, as no other writing has ever been or will ever be.  The Bible is the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man.  It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

The Church

The New Testament Church is the Body of Christ.  It is an assembly of baptized believers, in whom Christ dwells, under the discipline of the Word of God, organized to carry out the Great Commission, administer the ordinances, and is affected by spiritual gifts.

Evangelism

Evangelism is the primary purpose of the New Testament Church.  We as Christians are commissioned by Jesus Christ to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  God’s primary method of evangelizing an area is by planting a New Testament Church that is to reach the area with the Gospel.  The church is to disciple, baptize, and nurture the people in its area and beyond.

Eternal Security

Eternal security teaches that God is able to complete the good work of salvation that He has begun in every believer.  Eternal security is guaranteed by the person and work of Jesus Christ for every true believer.  In Romans 8:33-39, the Christian has the promise of God that no one can separate a Christian from God.

Baptism

One of the two ordinances of the New Testament Church, the other being the observation of the Lord’s Supper, baptism is the immersion of the believer into water.  It is the first step of obedience for the new Christian after salvation.  Baptism is an outward sign of that which has taken place within the heart of the believer.  By water baptism, the believer is placed into and identified with the local Body of Christ, the Church.
